Fleshchild

It’s a tribute to how badly I wanted to play Fleshchildthat I did so much troubleshooting to get it to run on Windows 8. What worked: downloading the 2000 RTPe from the Japanese ktool site (Windows thinks the RTPe at rpgmakerweb is a trojan), hit F4 on execution before it can lock-up. Tada~

Fleshchild is a work in progress about an infant interdimensional being who leaves its nest in the sewers to explore the world, learn about humans, and harvest body parts so it can become an adult. Fleshchild gets name-dropped a fair bit in RPG Maker circles, which is impressive when you consider the current release is version 0.02, but in spite of being short and incomplete it is very cool game. The art style, the general weirdness, it’s really something. It’s been in development over three years, so I’m not holding my breath on a final release, but it was definitely worth the effort to play the current version. I encountered a doorway glitch on the third day that prevented me from finishing, but fortunately PrinceUsagihas a Let’s Play that covers the part I couldn’t access.

Fleshchild was originally a Yume Nikki fangame but the current version occupies a space between Yume Nikki and Lisa. There are interesting similarities between the two games. The female version of Fleshchild’s protagonist, Vis, looks a bit like Lisa, and both games feature a particular flavor of body horror.
